ALLES GUTE, MARLENE & DIDI!

Food connects people and baking makes friends..

Years ago Marlene placed her first order. Being the wife of German Didi and living in Germany for many years she ordered Czech rising buns 'buchty' ('buchteln' in German) filled with powidl jam. As well as these, she ordered a Spelt Sourdough bread. Since then, Spelt Sourdough bread with flaxseed became our regular Sunday event, something that was not necessary to discuss, but something that just was happening. I wish I knew how many Spelt Sourdough loaves it was, how many beautiful loaves were handed over, how many kilograms of flour were used!

The time for our regular catch ups has come to end as Marlene and Didi are moving back to Europe, stopping in Mexico for their son's wedding and continuing to Europe. They will say bye to Australia in a week. Hopefully will return to Sydney one day.

Marlene and Didi have traveled all around the world and their stories were fascinating! Didi wrote a book of seven hundred pages about his life and I told him to write another one about their travels. I am expecting to receive a copy (in English please) for Christmas. Thanks.

Very precious was our last time when I came to their place and we had a cup of coffee on the balcony. My hands were loaded with two loaves of Spelt Sourdough bread, dried Sourdough starter, Medovnik balls and of course, powidl jam Buchty. What was on the first page of the book was on the last one.

Safe travels and 'Alles Gute' to Marlene and Didi!

I will miss you xx
