CZECH BAKING!

Happy Monday everyone!

The weekend was full of Czech sweet pastries 'kolache', bread rolls 'rohliky', honey-walnut cake 'medovnik' and also loaves of Sourdough bread. It always feels like I am back in the Czech republic when I bake something that is Czech. It feels like I am back there and our home smells even more like that! I grew up in a village and when we were kids, we used to go to see our grandparents and other relatives every Sunday. They lived in the next door village, so we just walked over the hill and were there in ten minutes. There were other cousins too who came for a visit so we got to see everyone every week. There was also an 'unwritten Sunday rule' there was a coffee cake or other sweets baked on a Sunday morning for expected and unexpected guests coming in the afternoon. If we didn't go anywhere, the others came to our place. Just some lovely memories from my childhood.

Some photos from my weekend baking.

Kolache - sweet Czech pastries filled with powidl jam, Quark, poppy seeds and walnut filling.

Spelt Sourdough with flaxseed & Gluten free Sourdough bread (from quinoa flour, chickpeas and lentil flour, millet, buckwheat flour, rice flour and tapioca flour).

No more birthday presents needed if your birthday cake is this one. 'Medovnik' spoils you enough with its honey walnut cake layers and caramelized condensed milk and butter icing in between layers. And you can eat the numbers too!!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Jana
